GEORGE... is a handsome retriever x (prob lab/collie)  who was surrendered to Meath Dog Pound in Ireland a couple of weeks ago - by an elderly couple who said he was chasing their cats.

The pound has found him very gentle and docile - and he gets on very well with other dogs.  We think he has all the makings of a lovely boy, but will know more when he arrives in the UK, probably the end of next week.

UPDATE 24/6/08

Gorgeous George - there isn’t a bad bone in this  good-looking boy’s body.  He loves other dogs and people. He is more collie-like in manner and the way he walks than these pictures suggest, but he’s very soft, loving and playful - and very steady for a youngster (we reckon he’s between 1 and 2 years old)

George is being fostered near Cirencester in Gloucestershire and here’s what his foster mum Kate has to say of him:  “He is really calm in the house and settled really well with Craig at work yesterday.  Out on a walk he gets very excited and does pull on the lead lots despite training!  We think it is all still very new to him and he is much better when taken on a quiet country lane compared with through the village where there is traffic, dogs etc.  He is not very food orientated.  He is generally very quiet but has barked at the postman coming to the door and also if he hears dogs bark when he s in the house/garden.  Overall, he is an absolute sweetheart and loves cuddles and is fully house trained.  He knows sit, down, here, bed, wait and all the other basic commands.  Apart from a bit more lead training I don't think you'll have a problem finding a home for him.”

George is vaccinated and in great health but has not yet been neutered.

There will be  an adoption fee of  £125 for George, which includes the £65 it costs to transport  him from Ireland.
